Central Canada Comic Con: An Overview
This two-day event is packed with household-name celebrities, famous comic artists and illustrators, local, national and international exhibitors, gaming, photo booths, face painting, family fun, fan videos, cartoons, anime, special attractions... and that’s not all! We’ve got over 100,000 square feet celebrating the best in comic books, science fiction, gaming, anime, horror and fantasy!
This is the fourth year for our convention. In prior years, we were known as the Manitoba Comic Con, but we’ve now grown to be the second-largest comic convention in Canada and thought we needed to let everyone know! With an attendance of 16,500 last year and a predicted 18,000 attendance this year, we reach a huge audience from across the world.
The 2009 Central Canada Comic Con will take place at the Winnipeg Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 31st and November 1st. We’re also the biggest gaming convention in Western Canada, hosting over 40,000 square feet of trading card games, roleplaying, miniatures, and board games!
This year’s event will feature celebrities like Adam West of Batman and Family Guy fame and Dirk Benedict from the original Battlestar Galactica and the A-Team! We’ll also have the Batmobile and many other impressive guests and attractions this year.
We’ve gained the attention of the public. Our convention just keeps growing, and gets seen by the entire world! With fun like this, we’re proud to welcome all our visitors, sponsors, artists, honoured guests, and exhibitors to this year’s convention.
Media and Press Frequently Asked Questions
What is a comic con?
A comic convention, or "comic con," is an event in which fans of TV shows, comic books, or an entire style of entertainment such as science fiction or Japanese media, gather together to meet famous personalities (and each other) face-to-face, as well as purchase toys and participate in a number of events. There is a large number of comic conventions worldwide.
May I interview congoers?
Congoers have the right to refuse to be filmed or interviewed. Any interviews or filming must be done with the minimum disruption to traffic flow and nearby activities. Opportunities will be provided to photograph the masquerade contestants and other costumed attendees in a safe, organized setting during the costume contest.
Please be polite, respectful and professional.
Central Canada Comic Con History
The Central Canada Comic Con is a not-for-profit event that began as the Manitoba Comic Con in 2005 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We've now grown to the second largest convention in Canada, with an expected 18,000 attendees this year.
We fundraise for different charities every year, including the Hero Initiative, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, and other local and national organizations. This year, we will be supporting Manitoba public school libraries and the Hero Initiative.
