Zombie Make Up Crew

Sponsored by Das ZOMBIE Productions

Featuring Zombie Make Up Artist CJ Hutchinson

About Them: Well my name is CJ Hutchinson, born right here in Winnipeg Manitoba, Graduated from Kelvin High School and also recieved an English degree from the University of Winnipeg. Since I was a child there have bee obsessed with horror and even more so by the Zombie. In 1995 I went to Joe Blasco School of make-up in Orlando Florida and learned make-up and special fx make-up, and promptly returned home to work in the local community as a make-up artist and production designer... Over the years in make-up I have had the oportunity to work on something in the neighbourhood of 450 some odd films and projects not limted to but including, theatrical, commercial and for the right price even the occasional halloween make-up...

By 2000 though I was kind of bored in the local community, as there may have been quite a few FX and make-up jobs for me very few of them were the kind of movie that I would watch to have a good time, and although I became a make-up artist to worrk in horror and sci-fi I had only ever worked one one film of that ILK... So over beer and Nachos with my friends at Farpoint films Das Zombie Productions was formed, and fly by night with four days notice I wrote my first script Evening of the Flesheaters... I called in almost every favour ever owed me and on the fifth day we made a short film... Over the years that followed I made 4 more (Gruesome Cupboard (2001) Children of the Plague (2002) Unstuffed (2003) and in 2005 we finished principle photography for Denizens of the Dead which wioulkd suffer setbaack after setback and only see release this year at the Underground Horrorfest in Tulsa where it won one of the 9 awards given to the over 200 fiklms playing... There are almost a dozen appearances for this film internationally iover the next year, it is a good time to be a zombie filmaker

Also as a make-up artist I have kept busy pursuing my interests in  photography and have created the Ghoulfriends a zombie pin up site (on all the usual channels like facebook and myspace) We have had something in the neighbourhood of 30 local models and internationally over 50 more have swelled the ranks...

Henna

Sponsored by Kim Brennan

I've been doing henna off and on for about 20 years. I started at the age of 9
when my father brought home a book about Krishna. At first my 'henna'
consisted of magic markers. But eventually with a little help, I figured it out.

During my teenage years I abandoned the art form almost completely. Boys
and fun seemed more important and other artistic endeavors caught my
attention. It didn't help that no one really understood henna or what I was
doing. The confused looks and constant questions were an unwelcome
annoyance.

Then about 7 years ago a friend had a 'toothpaste tube' of henna that was
about to expire and no talent for art. She asked me to henna her feet. When
all was said and done, her feet looked wonderful, my hands were cramped
and painfully throbbing but my passion was again ignited! The next day a
sweet Indian lady had asked her how much I charge for weddings after
seeing my friend's feet. I was truly back in the saddle again!
I strive to be the best henna artist / mehndiwalli that I can be. My passion for mehndi is almost an obsession. I've worked and studied hard to educate others and myself and to spread public awareness of the dangers of 'Black henna'. To reach these goals I became certified by the ICNHA, which is an organization dedicated to ensuring quality standards among henna artists. Examination consists of hygiene, safety, botany, biology, culture and
traditions, and the fundamental principles of henna including submission of a small portfolio with your working henna paste recipe.

After teaching henna/mehndi classes in India, there are two charities that are close to my heart. The first being
Chaman and the second being Snehasadan, A home for the homeless children. Please see the links to explore pictures of my experience as well as how you can help if you are so inclined.

I'm very proud to be able to put my 'henna dreams' on paper and share them with others in the form of my three books, Mehndi Masala, Ganesha's Henna Garden and Mehndi de los Muertos. They have been so well received and I have to thank all of those who have supported me emotionally as well as those that have supported my
work by purchasing my patterns.
